Getting There

By Air

Macau International Airport (MFM) is located on the east side of Taipa Island, with a runway built on reclaimed land and connected to Taipa via two bridges. It offers direct flights to mainland Chinese cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Haikou, Xiamen, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Shenzhen, Fuzhou, Chengdu, as well as Taipei and Kaohsiung in Taiwan, and Seoul, Incheon (South Korea), Bangkok, Manila, Singapore in Southeast Asia. Connecting flights to other parts of Asia, Europe, and the Americas are also available.

The airport is a 15-minute drive from Macau Ferry Terminal. It's a 20-minute drive from Barrier Gate. Take Lotus Bridge. The drive takes 5 minutes. It leads to the Guangdong border. This is for travelers going to Shenzhen. The airport has facilities. They include shops, restaurants, enquiry counters, banks, and postal services. Helicopter services link Macau to Hong Kong. The trip takes 16 minutes. Macau's departure time is 9:00-22:30. Hong Kong's departure time is 9:30-22:59. Flights leave every 30 minutes. Helicopter services also link Macau to Shenzhen Bao'an Airport. The trip takes 20 minutes. There are many departures every day. East Asian Airlines operates these services. By Sea

Macau keeps good ferry links with Hong Kong and mainland China. TurboJet and Cotai Water Jet run fast boats each day from Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal in Central, China Ferry Terminal in Kowloon, and Hong Kong International Airport SkyPier. The ride takes about 60--75 minutes. From Shenzhen, boats leave Shekou Terminal and take roughly 60 minutes.

By Land

The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge is open and shuttle buses run day and night between Hong Kong and Macau; the trip takes about 40 minutes.
For mainland China access, use either:
  • Gongbei Border (Barrier Gate): 7:00-24:00
  • Hengqin Port (Lotus Bridge): 24 hours

Regular coach services connect Macau with Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and other Pearl River Delta cities.

Getting Around

Public Buses
Macau's comprehensive bus network covers all major attractions. Key operators include Transmac and TCM. Most routes operate from 6:00-24:00 with fares ranging from MOP$6-10. No change is provided, so prepare exact fare or use Macau Pass card.
Major routes include:
  • AP1: Airport - Border Gate - Taipa
  • 3A: Ferry Terminal - City Center
  • 21A: Macau Peninsula - Coloane
  • 25: Barra - Taipa - Coloane

Taxis

Taxis are plentiful and affordable. Black-cab taxis serve the peninsula, while yellow ones operate in Taipa and Coloane. All taxis are metered with starting fare of MOP$19. Cross-island trips incur additional surcharges. Ride-hailing services are also available.

Hotel Shuttles

Big hotels and casinos run free shuttle buses. They go from ferry stops, the airport, and border gates. Anyone can ride, even if you do not stay at the hotel.

Macau Light Rail
The Taipa Line opened in 2019, connecting key areas in Taipa and Cotai. The system is fully automated and integrates with bus services.

While cash is widely accepted, the Macau Pass card offers convenience for frequent bus travelers. WeChat/Alipay now take in most taxis and big sites.
Border
Ensure your passport has at least 6 months validity. Most nationalities can enter Macau visa-free for 30-90 days. Check China visa before you cross.
Busy Time
Skip 7:30-9:30 AM and 5-7 PM on work days, plus weekends, to miss big lines and traffic.
Navigation Apps
