Klukang Monastery

Covering an area of 4,000 square meters, the Klukang Monastery was completed at the same time when the Jokhang Monastery was completed. Located in the northern part of the old city of Lhasa, the Klukang Monastery was built in the mid-seventh century and has been damaged and rebuilt several times. Facing the east, it is mainly composed of the courtyard in the front part, the sacred halls and archways in the rear section and a corridor for turning prayer tube and other buildings.

The monastery houses many murals and the statues of Sakyamuni, Maitreya and others, among which the gilded full-length statue of the eight-year-old Sakyamuni brought to Tibet by the Nepalese Princess Bhrikuti in the main hall is the most gorgeous one. The monastery is on the location of the Tantric College of the Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism. As an ancient monastery with precious Buddhist classics and lots of historic relics, Klukang Monastery has been enjoying a high reputation among the local people.
