Getting to Beihai is easy—air, train, or long-distance bus, each with perks. We'll break down which fits your plans best, based on where you're coming from and what you value most.

By Air

If you want to skip long journeys, fly into Beihai Fucheng Airport (BHY)—it's the city's main gateway. Direct flights link it to over 30 big cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Xi'an, and more. We've noticed summer and holidays get busy, so airlines often add extra charter flights—good to know if you're traveling peak season.

Getting from the airport to downtown (about 25km northeast) is straightforward—here's our go-to picks:

• Airport Shuttle Bus: Our top budget pick—only 20 RMB one-way. It runs every 30-60 minutes, timed with flight arrivals, and stops at key spots like Beihai Railway Station and the downtown bus hub. Perfect for connecting to other parts of the city without fuss.
• Taxi/Ride-Hailing: Taxis are right outside the terminal—expect 80-120 RMB to downtown, depending on traffic. A pro tip: some drivers near tourist spots skip the meter, so always ask to use it or agree on a price first. We usually recommend Didi (China's Uber) instead—it shows fares upfront, no surprises.
• Private Transfer: For groups or anyone wanting stress-free arrival, we offer custom private transfers. Our drivers wait with a name sign—no hunting for taxis after a long flight. It's worth it for peace of mind, especially with much luggage.

By Train

Beihai Railway Station is your best bet for train travel—it's linked to the national high-speed network. We love the 1.5-hour ride to Nanning (Guangxi's capital), 3.5 hours to Guilin (Guangxi's most popular tourist city), or 2.5 hours to Liuzhou (another important city in Guangxi). There are also regular trains to nearby provinces—great if you want to soak up scenery along the way without splurging.

The station's in eastern downtown—only 10-15 minutes by taxi to Silver Beach, our most popular spot. Buses, taxis, and Didi are all easy to grab here. And for our tour guests? We can arrange pickups so you don't waste a minute of your trip.

By Bus

Beihai has two main long-distance bus stations: downtown's Beihai Bus Terminal and Beihai South Bus Station. They run regular services to nearby cities—Zhanjiang (Guangdong), Qinzhou, Fangchenggang, and more. Buses are cheap (30-100 RMB, depending on distance) if you're exploring the surrounding area.

Heads up: buses take longer than trains or planes, especially cross-province. We always tell guests to check schedules early—book online via Ctrip or the station's site during peak season, or you might miss out.

Getting Around Beihai

Downtown Beihai is compact, and all top spots—Silver Beach, Weizhou Island Ferry Terminal, Old Street, Underwater World—are well-connected. Here's how we suggest getting around like a local:

City Buses
Buses are the locals' (and our) favorite budget option—1-2 RMB per ride, even air-conditioned ones. The network covers almost every tourist spot. These are the routes we point guests to most:

• Route 3: Runs from Beihai Railway Station to Silver Beach, stopping at Old Street and downtown—perfect for first-day exploring.
• Route 20: Goes from the airport shuttle stop to Weizhou Island Ferry Terminal—ideal if you're heading to the island.
• Route 17: Covers Underwater World, Silver Beach, and South Bay Scenic Area—great for a sightseeing day.

Pay with cash, a local transport card, or scan the Alipay QR code on the bus—super easy. Download Baidu Maps or Gaode Maps (China's Google Maps) to check real-time times and routes—we use them every day.

Taxis & Ride-Hailing

Taxis are handy if you're short on time or have luggage. The starting fare is 8 RMB for the first 2km, then 2 RMB per km after that. Our big tip: near spots like Silver Beach, some drivers try to skip the meter. Insist on it, or agree on a price before getting in—we've saved guests from overcharges this way.

Ride-hailing apps like Didi are more popular with tourists and locals alike. Just type your destination, and you'll see the fare upfront—no haggling. Most drivers speak basic English, but showing your hotel address in Chinese (we can send this to our guests!) never hurts.

Weizhou Island Ferries

We always say: Beihai isn't complete without a trip to Weizhou Island—China's biggest and youngest volcanic island. To get there, take a ferry from Beihai International Passenger Port (south of downtown). There are 3-5 ferries daily, depending on the season, and the ride takes 1.5-2 hours. Tickets are 150-210 RMB (economy vs. business class).

This is non-negotiable: Weizhou Island is incredibly popular April-October, so ferry tickets sell out fast. We strongly suggest booking early—either via the official Weizhou Island Ferry site or through us. We reserve tickets for our guests all the time, so you don't show up and miss out.

• Peak Season Prep: May-October is busy (summer holidays and National Day are chaos!). Flights, trains, ferries—everything books up. Book 1-2 weeks in advance, or let us handle it.
